I Don’t Make Art Every Day and I’m Trying Not to Apologise

I do not make art every day and I am trying not to apologise for it. I have a lot of respect for artists that do Inktober. Either they have a lot of time on their hands, do not sleep or have some level of organisation that I can only dream of.

I have a four day a week job that takes up most of my thinking energy. Some days I am revising for my degree and my brain is already full before I even sit down. Every day I am parenting, which means everything else moves to the background while I deal with the important stuff and the loud stuff.

Sometimes I sleep.

Sometimes I really need to sleep.

Sometimes I go running and turn the colour of a very ripe tomato and then lie on the floor questioning my life choices. Sometimes I rap to my cats (which feels essential at the time). None of these things look like art being made, but they are still part of the day. I am slowly learning that this does not mean I am failing. It just means I am doing other things too.

If you want to see the art that happens in between all of this, it exists elsewhere on this site.

It arrives when it arrives.
